Diabetes In The United States
Diabetes is one of the diseases that people know about but are unsure of its reach. With that in mind, we’re sharing some statistics from the American Diabetes Association.
- Prevalence – In 2012, 29.1 million Americans, or 9.3% of the US population had diabetes.
- It is estimated that 1.25 million American children and adults have Type 1 diabetes.
- Undiagnosed – Of the 29.1 million, 8.1 million went undiagnosed.
- Seniors – Almost 26% of seniors, 65 years and older, suffer from diabetes.
- New cases – 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes each year.
- Prediabetes – 86 million Americans, age 20 and up, had prediabetes, up from 79 million in 2010.
- Deaths – Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States.
