Guest Speaker announced for Jan 19th Cosmo Luncheon: Jamie Mitchell, HRSD

We are proud to announced that our Cosmo of the Day for the January 19th Club luncheon, Joe Wilder, has announced his guest speaker, Ms. Jamie S. Helsig-Mitchell, HRSD Chief of Technical Services. The luncheon will be held at the Norfolk Yacht & Country Club at 12:15p. Join us, won’t you?

The Sustainable Water Initiative for tomorrow, or SWIFT, is an innovative water purification project in eastern Virginia designed to further protect the region’s environment, enhance the sustainability of the region’s long-term groundwater supply and help address environmental pressures such as Chesapeake Bay restoration, sea level rise and saltwater intrusion.

The project will take already-treated wastewater that would otherwise be discharged into the Elizabeth, James or York rivers and purify it through additional rounds of advanced water treatment to meet drinking water standards. The purified water will then be added to the Potomac aquifer, the primary source of groundwater throughout eastern Virginia.

Ms. Jamie Mitchell, HRSD’s Technical Services Division Chief and one of the water quality scientists serving on the SWIFT Project Team, will present an overview of this transformational initiative and respond to questions.
