Scientists May Have A Cure For Type 1 Diabetes
According to a recent article by Engadget, scientists at ViaCyte, a regenerative medicine company, may have discovered a functional cure for type 1 diabetes. Their research, centered around stem cells, would use the stem cells to replace the pancreatic cells that create insulin. Called islet cells, they have shown in the study the cells have the ability to grow into the cells needed to produce insulin.
It is called a function cure because it does not address or treat the cause of type 1 diabetes, but the results are promising in providing long suffering patients hope for a treatment. We’ll pass along more information as we have it!
