New Diabetes Drug Providing Weight Loss
A Danish drug maker, Novo Nordisk, just had a diabetes medicine approved in the US and it’s particularly interesting not only for it’s blood sugar control, but for the added benefit that it helps with weight loss.
The drug, Ozempic, is a once-a-week shot for people with Type 2 diabetes and is a promising due to the fact that in studies users were able to reduce long term blood sugar levels at least 2.5 times as much as popular diabetes pills. But researchers also noticed that study participants, over the 56 week trial, lost an average of 9.5 lbs, and those who received higher doses lost 13.5 lbs on average.
